The busy offseason for Chris Young and the Texas Rangers continues to roll on.
The Rangers are set to sign veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart to a minor-league contract, according to a source familiar with the deal, as reported by The Dallas Morning News.
The contract will include an invitation to spring training. This latest addition is part of a productive week for the Rangers, who have also made significant moves, including re-signing Nathan Eovaldi, acquiring Jake Burger through trade, and bringing in reliever Jacob Webb.
Barnhart, who faced challenges in the 2024 season, will have a chance to bounce back. Last year, he struggled with the Arizona Diamondbacks, posting a .173/.287/.210 slash line over 31 games before being released by the team in the summer. He finished the season on a minor-league contract with the Cincinnati Reds.
The Rangers have also bolstered their roster with several minor-league signings, adding pitchers Adrian Houser and Caleb Boushley to the mix. Additionally, they strengthened their catching depth by agreeing to a deal with Kyle Higashioka.
